Born and raised in North Dakota, she obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at Minnesota State University in Mankato, MN. She also spends time in Arizona at her home in the high desert of Mohave County. Her art education began when her parents enrolled Bonnie in the Art Instruction Schools as a child. This was a home study "Draw Me" school that advertised frequently in the magazines of the time.
