Description
Meet Me at Burritt at Midnight is a photograph taken in the dead of night at the Burritt alley off of Bush and Stockton Streets in San Francisco. The significance of this location has been immortalized in the 1941 film noir movie "The Maltese Falcon" which starred Humphrey Bogart as Sam Spade. Sam's partner Miles Archer met his end here.
In this alley you will find a plaque that reads: “On approximately this spot, Miles Archer, partner of Sam Spade, was done in by Brigid O’Shaughnessy.” Of course Miles Archer, Sam Spade and Brigid O’Shaughnessy are not historical characters, but the creations of author Dashiell Hammett, and the death of Miles Archer just a moment in the film “The Maltese Falcon.”
But if someone wants to meet you at Burritt at midnight, as my title suggests, you might want to think twice about going.
