Morning Fog in the Lily Patch is a photo painting prepared from an early morning photograph captured at Little Toad Lake in Minnesota during the month of May, before the lilies are in full bloom. Still there is one small yellow lily beginning to open in this photo. The fog burned off soon after this photo was taken.

Nuphar variegata (Yellow Pond-lily)
Yellow Pond-lily, known in older references as Nuphar lutea spp. varietata, is one of the more common aquatic plants in Minnesota and found in most counties, though surprisingly there are no herbarium records collected in places where it should be thriving, such as Sherburne and Rice counties. It often co-habitates with White Water-lily (Nymphaea odorata). Yellow Pond-lily is readily identifiable by the large, yellow, globe-shaped flowers and large, oval, floating leaves. It is one of the parents to the hybrid Nuphar rubrodisca, which has slightly smaller flowers with a red disk.

Born and raised in North Dakota, she obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at Minnesota State University in Mankato, MN. Her art education began when her parents enrolled Bonnie in the Art Instruction Schools as a child. This was a home study "Draw Me" school that advertised frequently in the magazines of the time. She continued her interest in art during her college years, majoring in fine art, photography and printmaking.
