Description
Peaceful Morning Walk Muir Woods is a photograph capturing a peaceful shaded walk in the redwood forest in warm tones.
Proclaimed a national monument in 1908 by Pres. Theodore Roosevelt, the land for Muir Woods was donated by Congressman William Kent (to avoid the canyon being used by a water company as a reservoir) and dedicated to naturalist John Muir, “the father of national parks.”
The large trees in Muir Woods are the coastal redwoods, the tallest of all living things, and some scattered Douglas firs. The tallest coastal redwood at Muir Woods is about 258 feet, approximately the height of a six-foot person stacked head to toe 45 times.
