About Bonnie Follett
I was born and raised in North Dakota and attended college in Minnesota where I obtained my Fine Arts degree at Mankato State University. I moved to San Francisco after college and have been here ever since, except for a year spent in Arizona to try a more rural life, in a whole new high desert environment.
As a child I spent a lot of time drawing and furthered that interest when my parents allowed me to enroll in the Art Instruction Schools - a home study "Draw Me" school that advertised frequently in the magazines of the time. I continued my interest in art during my college years, where I majored in fine art, photography and printmaking.
After college and during my early years in San Francisco, I took photography classes, figure drawing classes, a printmaking class, and I painted in acrylics and watercolors at home between jobs. But once I started working in the legal field, that quickly took up more and more of my time and energy.
In the last few years I have been trying to rekindle a sense of inspiration and imagination that went somewhat dormant for too long. Although I taught myself web design and photo retouching (with the advent of digital tools) while the internet age was blooming, I was still working full time in the legal field and had not done any actual fine art type paintings in years. In recent years I also studied at San Francisco State University's Multimedia Studies Program to further my digital design skills.
But I am now trying to clean up my past break from art and painting while working full time. And I do still rely on my computer for the majority of my artistic outlets. The world of "what is art" is changing, moving more and more to the digital audience. However, I am considering subjects for a new series of paintings and watercolors. Until I get my new work ready to share, I am organizing my past work, and my digital work, and I hope that the Fine Arts America website will help expand my availability to a wider audience.
