Old Growth Cholla Cactus view 1 is a photo painting of a very tall cactus (well over 10 feet tall) found in the Mohave Desert near Kingman, AZ. It has got to be very old growth but I cannot guess at its age.
This was the tallest cactus growth in the area and appears to be a cholla cactus, but I am uncertain of which of the various varieties. My best guess was that this is a pencil cholla that has survived many many moons of tough weather.
Of note is that this area appears to be under imminent development for housing, which is very sad as this desert area contains much vibrant desert life, both flora and fauna... rabbits, quail, geckos, and other critters. I hate to see it go, and wanted to memorialize this amazing old growth plant life that could soon be bull-dozed for tract housing.
