Description
Path By Redwood Creek Muir Woods is a photograph captured on a sunny January morning at this Marin County, California national park. Nothing is so peaceful and calming as a walk in the redwoods, with the cool sounds of a babbling creek nearby as nature's music.
Proclaimed a national monument in 1908 by Pres. Theodore Roosevelt, the land for Muir Woods was donated by Congressman William Kent (to avoid the canyon being used by a water company as a reservoir) and dedicated to naturalist John Muir, “the father of national parks.”
The large trees in Muir Woods are the coastal redwoods, the tallest of all living things, and some scattered Douglas firs. The tallest coastal redwood at Muir Woods is about 258 feet, approximately the height of a six-foot person stacked head to toe 45 times.
