View of Coast Near Battery Crosby is a photo captured from an area near Lincoln Boulevard in San Francisco that is on the bluffs above Baker Beach and Coyote Gulch near the Battery to Bluffs Trail. The entrance to the Golden Gate Strait is nearby and the Marin hills in the distance.
Built to protect underwater minefields laid outside the Golden Gate, this Endicott-era battery was completed and armed in 1900. Armed with two 6-inch guns mounted on disappearing carriages, Battery Crosby’s artillery had a range of eight miles and could fire at the rate of two rounds per minute. During World War II, these guns were designed to concentrate fire on the harbor entrance and minefields. Throughout this period, Battery Crosby was manned by the Sixth Coast Artillery Regiment, Battery "B". In 1943, the War Department officially closed the battery and its guns were scrapped.

Born and raised in North Dakota, she obtained a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at Minnesota State University in Mankato, MN. Her art education began when her parents enrolled Bonnie in the Art Instruction Schools as a child. This was a home study "Draw Me" school that advertised frequently in the magazines of the time. She continued her interest in art during her college years, majoring in fine art, photography and printmaking. Not long after completing her college BFA degree, Bonnie moved to San Francisco, and continued her art education by taking photography...
