Description
Tads Steaks Sign is a photograph captured at night of the neon signage for this restaurant located at 120 Powell Street, near Union Square in San Francisco.
Tad's Steak has been a fixture on Powell Street since the 1950's, and was founded by a man named Donald Townsend (from North Dakota where beef is huge), and who ended up creating a chain of these restaurants on the idea that a good steak dinner could be delivered profitably at a working man's wage. At the peak of it's popularity, the chain had 28 restaurants, eight in New York. When he passed away, he was featured in a New York Time article: Donald Townsend, Who Founded Tad's Home of the Low-Priced T-Bone, Dies at 91,
by Douglas Martin, April 2, 2000.
