The Lighthouse Keeper is a photograph of a uniformed lighthouse keeper framed in his habitat, the interior of the lighthouse at Split Rock Lighthouse on the North Shore of Lake Superior in Minnesota. This man may actually be worker or docent hired to answer questions of the many tourists visiting the lighthouse each year, but he recalled in me the Keepers of the old days.
Being a lighthouse keeper was not a 9-to-5 job. It was anything but. A typical tour of duty began before dusk and continued well past dawn. The keeper tended to routine but essential duties, made repairs as needed, and was always prepared to respond to any emergency, including shipwrecks.
